Starting Music for Sunday, Feb. 13th, 2022

Good morning, NE Ohio and the rest of the world! It’s Sunday, Feb. 13th –the 44th day of the year. Here in the Hall of Fame city, we have cloudy skies to start the day, with an expected low of 9 degrees Fahrenheit at midnight. Our high is forecast to be 24 this afternoon. We saw a 0.01” of precipitation and 0.10” of snowfall yesterday/overnight. The recorded overnight snow depth dropped 2.00” to approximately 4.00”, and the sheen layer of top ice is now covered thanks to some light flurries earlier this morning. Winds are relatively calm out of the W at 0 to 10 mph, barometric pressure is now up at 30.23, and the humidity dropped slightly to 71%.

The sun came up 1 minute earlier than yesterday at 7:22 a.m. and will set 1 min. later than yesterday at 17:57 hours. The moon is still waxing gibbous (90.8%) and will be out again at 14:51 hours. It set earlier this morning at 5:49 a.m.

This morning I removed 7,516 trackers (mostly social media and advertising) from my PC. This is the real cause of internet lag and slow connections. It’s an endless source of frustration for me knowing how fast and amazing our technology would be without all the background tracking and bloatware.

On this day in 1578, Tycho Brahe made his 1st sketches of our solar system using his “Tychonic” system (the sun, moon, and stars orbit the Earth, while the 5 known planets at the time orbit the sun). A mere 55 years later (1633), Galileo Galilei was put on trial for suggesting the Earth revolves around the sun. (And people get upset these days because they think “the other side” is trying to silence them despite the fact that they, you know, just posted it. SMH Also, those of you posting shocking announcements just for clicks, I know thee for thy divisiveness.) In 1861 Abraham Lincoln was declared President of the United States. In 1982 Pink Floyd’s “The Dark Side of the Moon” marked an astounding 402 weeks in the album charts, and in 2000, the last original Peanuts comic strip appeared one day after the passing of its creator, Charles M. Schulz.

Today’s birthdays include Joseph Banks (explorer, botanist, naturalist) who accompanied James Cook on the H.M.S. Endeavour, First Lady Bess Truman (wife of 33rd President Harry Truman), and Peter Gabriel who saw some success fronting Genesis, but really made a name for himself as a solo act, much like Phil Collins.

Moving on to sports –tonight I’ll be rooting for the Dallas Stars (NHL) vs. the Colorado Avalanche, the North Texas Mean Green (NCAA women’s basketball) vs. the Rice Owls, the Cincinnati Bengals (NFL) vs. the Los Angeles Rams in the Superbowl (even though I think the Rams win easily; rooting for the team with more Buckeyes on the roster), and Team USA in the Winter Olympics. Yesterday/last night was kind of a bummer in my little ol’ sports world as the Cavs lost to the 76ers and the Mavs lost to the Clippers. But the Blue Jackets beat the Canadiens (that’s 3 in-a-row!), the Buckeyes beat the Wolverines, SMU beat the Pirates, the Mean Green beat the Owls, and Team USA continues to grind for medals!

Here are the results at the close of Friday’s markets for my itty-bitty (but growing!) portfolio and the stocks that I’m watching (Overall refers to “since I’ve been tracking daily since mid-January).

MTCH -$1.64/share; -$3.08/share overall

NOA +$0.36/share; +$0.66/share overall

T (AT&T) -$0.12/share; -$1.08/share overall

No change in my portfolio due to it being the weekend, and the Minds coins cryptocurrency (based on Ethereum) was down this morning -$0.01 to $2.06/coin; -$25.03/coin overall.

Check out Stockpile for traditional shares because you can order by a dollar amount instead of whole shares and build from there.

Well, that’s a wrap. I’ll be starting the day off with one of my favorite Peter Gabriel songs –“Shock the Monkey” from his 4th solo album “Security” (1982). Despite the video being inspired by the original Blade Runner film and showing Gabriel as a worker under stress who eventually gets in touch with his more primal side, Peter has stated that the song is about jealousy.

Remember, Fear is the Mind-Killer, Don’t Panic, Keep Your Head Right with Ball, and May God be gracious to you and bless you and make His face shine upon you.
